Super 'People' - Havanah

I have a thing for prescription eyewear [you'll notice when you go further into the blog]. I don't know what causes it, but I think it's the fact that I can't have it [my eyes are perfect].

Remember as a kid you couldn't have something and it made you want it even more?

Rob is cool

As far as surf movies go, this is visually the most beautiful I've seen yet. The fact that it has an actual story line is also nice for a change.

Ranger Ultra Compact Lite Sleeping Bag

For my upcoming surf trip I want to pack light to avoid carrying around unnecessary shit, because I already have to bring my surf gear like board, wetsuits etc. Therefore I got this army style ultra compact sleeping bag. Check out the reference picture with my hand and you'll understand why it's called ultra compact.

Colour on the first picture is not correct, in real life it's army green, like the second picture.

Appelsap Festival Amsterdam

Two weeks ago we went to the Appelsap Festival in Amsterdam. To put it short, Appelsap is a party. But not just a party... Most famous because of the unique vibe and high quality of resident dj's. In the last 8 years Appelsap evolved into being one of the best Dutch hiphop-events. In the beautiful Oosterpark they take hiphop back to its roots.

Oh yes the best part, IT'S FREE!

3D movies

They updated the 3D glasses in the Cinema. Nowadays they look more like Rayban Wayfarers...

Erik Schedin

It all started four years ago when Erik Schedin, then a student at Beckmans College of Design, began producing his own footwear. The all-white leather shoes have a perforated lining and are devoid of any logos or branding. It remains the only personally-designed product on the site, and when he first started out they were only available in his size, 44 (10.5 US). Now the shoes are available in all sizes and he added some other cool product on his site with the same design aesthetic.

Japanese Denim, London Style

Snake & Dagger,

I think this brand will do well, mainly because of the washes. Why? Well, there are a lot of good denim brands out there with attention to detail like selvedge, chain stitching and more of that denim bla bla. But, a lot of these brands trust that the details and attention to quality will be enough for them to survive. Here I think they make the mistake.

The real denim lovers are a niche market that will probably stick to the authentic brands like Levi's, Lee and Wrangler just to name a few. They can occasionally be tempted to go outside their comfort zone and buy something like a Japanese brand such as Momotaro, Samurai, Denime, Evisu etc. Furthermore, these guys know the principles and details of premium denim and the tradition of buying it raw/ unwashed and have it wear and tear to your body shape. My point here is that if you aim for this demographic you better bring something very special or it is not going to work.

The general public that appreciates a nice denim but is not an addict, like the above category, will not get exited about a good raw denim with tons of detail. I'll go one step further and say they will not even notice the detail. This demographic will however respond to wicked washes. This is something they notice and can understand on a basic level without needing a history lesson on denim.

So my advice for denim brands is to come out with wicked washes. Example: the PRPS brand, a basic denim from this particular brand will sell for around 350 euro and 90% of their denims are not even made from selvedge denim. Why do PRPS denims sell out everywhere? Because they basically do the best washes on the market.
